      Lemon quartz is often confused with citrine, both being a yellow variety of quartz. The only difference is the color saturation. While Citrine can be pale yellow to vivid red-orange, lemon quartz's bright yellow to greenish-yellow color, can bring to mind the dazzling color of lemon groves in summer. While natural lemon quartz is rare and not the source of commercial supply, lemon quaartz is commomly made through a process of gamma-ray irradiation followed by a heat treatment for stabilization. Although lemon quartz is exposed to radiation, the Nuclear Regulation Committee states that there is no residual radiation left over. This means that lemon quartz is completely safe to own, handle, and wear.

      Lemon quartz is durable and ranks 7 on the Mohs hardness scale.  It makes great rings and is easy to clean with soap and water at home. Chemical jewelry cleaners are safe to use on lemon quartz jewelry.
