About Variscite
Variscite is a rare green mineral often mistaken for green turquoise. Found most frequently in Utah (so much so that the stone was once popularly referred to as "Utahlite"), material can be found in specific mines throughout the Southwest United States and Germany. Unlike turquoise, variscite is colored by aluminum elements, not copper. While variscite is rarer than most turquoise varieties, material is often less expensive due to not being as well known on the retail jewelry market.
Variscite is suggested to be worn in pendants and earrings. Rings should be worn with care. The stone ranks 4 to 5 on the Mohs hardness scale and should be kept away from chemical silver cleaners. Clean variscite jewelry with a silver polishing cloth while avoiding the stone in order to preserve the stone's polish.
